No. The school pays. Families only need WhatsApp.
Safety and privacy
Is Engenio safe for young children?
Yes. Settings and filters are set per grade, from Grade R. Learners under 13 use it through a parent's or guardian's WhatsApp.
My child is under 13 or doesn't have a phone. Can they use Engenio?
Yes, through a parent's or guardian's WhatsApp. WhatsApp requires users to be 13 or older, so younger learners chat on their parent's phone. The parent links each child once, and Engenio adjusts to the child's grade. Parents with more than one child at the school can switch between them in the same chat.
How does Engenio handle POPIA?
Engenio is designed around POPIA. Parents consent before learners use it, data is used only for school purposes, and it's never sold or used for advertising. Privacy & Safety.
What happens if a learner says something worrying?
Engenio responds with care and flags the conversation to the school's designated staff member, so a person can follow up.

How long does set-up take?
It depends on your school's size and how quickly your information is ready. We'll give you a timeline in the demo.
What do we need to provide?
Your policies, calendar, class lists and a staff champion. We help gather everything.
Learning and cheating
Won't learners just use it to cheat?
It's built to explain, not to hand over answers. It asks guiding questions, checks understanding and gives practice. Teachers can set rules per grade and see how it's used.
Will it write essays for learners?
No. It helps them plan and gives feedback on their own drafts.
Teachers
Does Engenio replace teachers?
No. It supports teachers by handling repetitive questions and admin. Teachers stay in charge of content, settings and approvals.
Do teachers have to approve what it creates?
Yes. Plans, resources and feedback stay drafts until a teacher approves and shares them.
Accessibility and devices
Which devices does it work on?
Any smartphone with WhatsApp. Staff tools also work on laptops and tablets.
Does it support learners who struggle with reading?
Yes. It explains in simpler language, summarises long texts and breaks tasks into small steps.
How much data does it use?
Very little. It's text-based chat on WhatsApp.
Do we need Engenius Connect Wi-Fi?
No. Engenio works on any connection, including mobile data.
