Personal information is encrypted, collected only for school purposes and kept only as long as needed.
No selling, no ads
We never sell data, use it for advertising, or build commercial profiles of children.
Content filtering
Age-appropriate filters per grade block harmful, adult and off-topic content.
Moderation
Community groups are moderated by school staff. Conversations are checked for quality and safety.
Staff escalation
Signs of bullying, self-harm or abuse are flagged to the school's designated staff member straight away.

Schools decide who joins, what Engenio covers and what teachers and parents can see.
What POPIA means for your school
POPIA sets strict conditions for processing personal information, with extra protection for children. Here's how we meet them.

- Purpose limitationWe use information only to provide Engenio and Community services to your school.
- Access and deletionParents and staff can ask to see, correct or delete their information.
- Security safeguardsEncryption, access controls and regular reviews.
- Where your information goesEngenio uses trusted service providers to deliver messages and generate answers, including WhatsApp and AI model providers. Some processing happens outside South Africa. Before anything reaches an AI provider, we remove names, phone numbers and ID numbers, and use a learner code instead. Our providers are contractually barred from using school data to train AI models and must protect it to POPIA standards. A current list of providers and where they process data is available to schools on request.
